Description
Antique French casket box in milky white opaline, also called alabaster glass for its stone-like translucence. This 19th-century example features gilt scrollwork on all sides, bronze mounts and original clasp. Opaline glass, prized in 19th Century France and Bohemia, mimics fine alabaster while being hand-blown, then enameled or gilded for a luminous, jewel-like effect. Please note hinge is repaired, does its job just fine, could be done professionally if desired. Unsigned. No key.
